Kanye West prefers spending time with girlfriend Kim Kardashian over performing at Cannes

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West flaunted their feelings at the Lakers game on May 12.
Kanye West picked Kim over Cannes on Wednesday night. A source in the South of France tells us the hip-hop artist, who was in town to show his 30-minute art film, “Cruel Summer,” blew off a planned club performance to have an intimate dinner with his current companion Kim Kardashian.

According to the insider, West was supposed to join the star of his picture, Kid Cudi, for a “surprise performance” at the Provocateur pop-up nightclub in Cannes following the premiere of his movie.

Cudi did end up performing to a crowd that included Jay-Z (who was also at the screening), but Yeezy and his squeezy made a brief appearance, then ducked out early for some quality time with each other.

While the party raged on at Provocateur, which is based out of Gotha Club in the Palm Beach Casino, West and Kardashian enjoyed an intimate dinner at superexclusive Le Baoli, a romantic Balinese-style restaurant on the edge of the French Riviera.

Big Sean, who is signed to West’s G.O.O.D. music label, performed in his boss’ place.

He must be getting used to subbing for Yeezy. Earlier this month, we reported that Sean was a last-minute replacement for another surprise appearance West was supposed to make at a fund-raiser for the Bronx Charter School at Marquee nightclub here.

After West’s security swept the venue and the benefit’s host, Swizz Beatz, dropped a number of hints that West would be performing, he never showed.

At the time, a behind-the-scenes source told us that West did not alert organizers or Beatz that he was sending Big Sean in his stead.

West will probably behave even more like an artiste given the positive reaction to “Cruel Summer,” which played on seven movie screens that had been set up beneath a tent on the eastern edge of Cannes. (The film was not actually part of the film festival there.)

West was joined at the premiere by Kardashian, Jay-Z, Cudi and the two other stars of his film, rapper Pusha-T and Qatari actress Sarah A. , who the Vulture entertainment website reported is a dead ringer for Kardashian. (She does not use her real name because, the site noted, “It is frowned upon in Qatar for women to act.”)

The movie was shot in Qatar and funded by that country’s Doha Film Institute.

In “Cruel Summer,” Cudi plays a thief (partnered with Pusha-T) who falls in love with a beautiful blind Arabian princess (Sarah A.) in a parallel universe, no less. The royal’s father tells him that he can marry his daughter if he can make her see.

After the premiere, West told the crowd that his idea for a film that’s watched on seven screens “related to post-Steve Jobs, post-Windows era.”

He added: “I could dream of one day this being the way that people watch movies, in this form where it surrounds you.”
