Gaga Pure Platinum is a splashy cosmetics brand that has existed since Lady Gaga was in high school. Given that its main selling point revolves around a magic ingredient called "GemLust," it isn't far-fetched to guess that a young Stefani Germanotta herself might have enjoyed the products. In any case, present-day Gaga isn't too happy with the company, as their 12-year-old federal trademark has precluded her from registering her own name as a brand. As such, she has been attempting to remove their right to bear the Gaga name since earlier this year.

The case isn't going too well for the pop star. However, As Gaga attempts to clear the path for her upcoming fragrance (and, presumably, cosmetics) empire, Gaga Pure Platinum has ramped up their online presence, proving wrong anyone who thought their own brand, founded in 2000, was anything but alive and well. (In a letter to the Village Voice, Gaga's handlers allege that the brand hasn't been active in years.)

"The Gaga Pure Platinum trademark has been and continues to be in use," the trademark holders hit back. "Lady Gaga's counsel never contacted Gaga Pure Platinum nor did we ever receive any communication from Lady Gaga nor its representatives." They also insinuate the Haus of Gaga is "bullying" their family-owned brand (registered under Ate My Heart, Inc.) and serves as a threat to their business's well-being. With neither party likely to acquiesce anytime soon, the glamorous drama continues...

lady gaga concert
Lady Gaga debuted a new song during her "Born This Way Ball" concert last night in Melbourne, Australia that she says may appear on her new album. The track is a somber piano balled called "Princess Die."

"So this song may or may not be on my next album. I wrote it a little while ago and I've never ever played it for anyone," Gaga told the screaming audience. "I'm going to play it because, actually, I've been really excited and impressed with how many super fans have been at every show. I truly feel it would be a disservice to all of you to not play it before I leave."

The pop superstar's co-manager Vincent Herbert told the website That Grape Juice that the new album will be as boundary-pushing as ever and that it is being worked on concurrently with her current tour (as Born This Way was with her "Monster Ball" roadshow).

Gaga has said she will announce the title of her new album in September. On Twitter, Gaga added that she has already played some songs for her label.

She described "Princess Die" as "a little bit sad," but said it "is in no way reflective of the rest of the music on the album … but it's about some of the most deep and personal thoughts I've ever had."

"Leave the coffin open when I go / And leave my pearls and lipstick on so everybody knows," the song begins before taking an even sadder turn, as the thematic focus shifts to suicide:

"I wish that I could cope, but I took pills and left a note / I'm hungry from an anorexic heart / I've been trying to tell you how I feel, but was never very smart / I'm wrapped in silks made for Egyptian queens / I'll do it in the swimming pool so everybody sees."

It's heavy stuff. Listen below!

Rihanna continues to reign supreme on Billboard's Social 50 chart this week. She holds at No. 1 on the tally, reeling from media excitement generated by her film debut in "Battleship." Further, a series of remixes of her popular single "Where Have You Been" hit iTunes last week.

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

"Where Have You Been," from Rihanna's sixth studio album "Talk That Talk," rises 13-11 on the Hot 100 this week, continuing to be one of the most popular tracks from the pop star's late 2011 release. The remixes EP, released May 22, features remixes by Hardwell, Papercha$er and Hector Fonseca.

Lady Gaga furthers her progression on the chart, moving 5-2. Continuing the story from last week, on May 27 Gaga officially announced the cancellation of her June 3 show in Jakarta, Indonesia. Lady Gaga took to Twitter and Facebook to make the announcement to her fans:

"We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I'm so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me. I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown. #GagaSendsLoveToJakarta and all its people."

Fans were issued a full refund on their ticket purchase for the sold out show. "It's unfortunate," said Minola Sebayang, a lawyer for concert promoter Big Daddy, told the Associated Press. "But with threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga's side is calling it off. This is not only about Lady Gaga's security, but extends to those who will be watching her."

Despite disappointment from fans over not being able to see the Gaga, her online fan acquisition showed no sign of waning. It earned a 12% increase over the previous week.

Linkin Park continues its climb up the chart as well, moving 15-8 to re-enter the top 10 for the first time since last July. The band performed the first of a series of concerts promoting its forthcoming album "Living Things" In Lisbon, Portugal on May 26. That show came two days after the MTV Premiere of its "Burn It Down" music video on May 24, a song that the group also performed May 20 on the Billboard Music Awards. All of this promotional activity generated extra buzz around the band, helping it earn an 18% increase in overall plays across VEVO and MySpace during the charting week.

Elsewhere on the chart, popular YouTube animated band Your Favorite Martian experienced substantial gains during the charting week by hopping aboard the Gotye bandwagon with its own cover of "Somebody That I Used to Know." The cover has received over 3,000,000 views since its May 23 release. That's certainly a nod to the sustained popularity the original single continues to have on the Internet as it enters its seventh consecutive week as No. 1 on the On-Demand Songs chart.

As for the rest of the top 10, Adele tumbles (2-3) as does Skrillex (3-4), while Katy Perry rises (7-5). Justin Bieber's continues to descend the tally as he falls 4-6, making room for the aforementioned artists who had more substantial online activity. Nicki Minaj falls (6-7) as does One Direction (8-9). Jennifer Lopez remains steady at No. 10.

Selena Gomez and Lady GagaSelena Gomez Prank Leaves Lady Gaga Fuming, Report Says. Selena Gomez's prank may bring out the monster in Lady Gaga. Gomez, who hosted the MTV EMA Awards in Belfast, Ireland, Sunday night, mocked Mother Monster by wearing a pink poodle wig resembling Gaga’s elaborate choice of hair in past times. Gaga was reportedly less than amused by the playful dig.

According to the U.K.’s Mirror tabloid, an undisclosed source told the daily that “there was a chill in the air” after Gomez pulled the prank.

“Everybody was holding their breath, nervous about how Lady Gaga would take the dig,” the source told the English newspaper.

“Gaga was fuming at Selena’s slight at her,” the source continued. “She took it personally.”

The source also dished to the tabloid that Gomez “was not allowed anywhere near Gaga backstage,” after the incident.

The source added that Gaga was “stunned” and “couldn’t believe Selena had gone there.”

“She takes her art very seriously,” the source said.

Gomez, 19, tried to make amends with Gaga, saying she was trying to compliment Mother Monster on her fashion sense.

“It’s no secret I want to dress like her,” Selena Gomez said, according to Mirror.

Lady Gaga took home awards for “Best Song” and “Best Video” for her "Born This Way."

"Thank you so much, I love you so much. I'm so grateful,” Gaga said under her elaborate ensemble that covered her entire face. “I'm really smiling right now, but I know you can't tell."

The “Poker Face” singer joked that she had gotten an excessive amount of Botox on her face, before thanking her “little monsters” for all the support with her “Born This Way” single.

Lady Gaga: Busy in LondonNever one to wear anything that screams “normal,” Lady Gaga was spotted leaving her hotel in London, England on Friday (November 4).

The “Born This Way” songstress dressed in her usual but unusual garb as she made her way past the paparazzi, carrying herself proudly as always.

In recent news, Gaga will be featured on a 90-minute prime time Thanksgiving special that will air on ABC on November 24.

Katie Couric, who sits down with Gaga as a part of the special said in a statement, "We all know Lady Gaga is a phenomenon. This is a chance to see more of who she is beneath the wild costumes and staged musical numbers ... Lady Gaga as a high school student still bruised by being excluded from the party, Lady Gaga as a devoted daughter and caring sister, Lady Gaga as a 25-year-old woman embracing fame and fortune that seemed to come overnight. She will impress you, delight you and surprise you."

She’s got her own column in V magazine, and this time around Lady Gaga took shots at harsh and elitist fashion critics.

The “Just Dance” diva spoke out against New York Times fashion writer Cathy Horyn and her tendency towards Extreme Critic Fundamentalism.

Gaga wrote, "It's so easy to say something is bad. It's so easy to write, 'One star, hated it, worst show of the season.' It's much more challenging to reckon with and analyze a work. It requires research, but maybe no one does their research anymore."

She also called Horyn a dinosaur doomed to extinction who needs to make way for vibrant and plugged-in younger critics that are on the way up.

It all started when Horyn called Gaga “an ugly duckling with great spook appeal,” and criticized her Versace garb in her “Edge of Glory” video, saying she looked “embalmed.”

Lady Gaga is "emotionally thin". Lady Gaga is "emotionally thin".

The 'Judas' hitmaker - who is renowned for her eccentric dress sense - believes she holds her feelings close to her under a layer of skin but is not "vulnerable" as that implies she does nothing but cry.

Asked what she has learned about herself recently, she said: "I learned that to be a great artist, you must be emotionally very thin. Your tears and anger and your happiness must be just under the surface of your first layer of skin.

"I like to say 'emotionally thin' because it's much more dramatic. Vulnerable to me implies only tears."

However, the 25-year-old singer admits it is a challenge to fight against public perception of her and reveals she is "an act".

She added to PopDust.com: "The challenge is that what others view as artifice-my wigs, my makeup, my clothes, my love for show business and theatre-to me, these are the paint in my palette. These things are not artifice. These things are my reality. But they create a boundary between me and the public that I have to fight through.

"People wonder, 'Is she for real? Is it all an act?' But my question is, 'Since when did the act become a bad thing?' Show business has always been about the act. Hasn't it?"

Getting herself into a little bit of a pickle, Lady Gaga is being sued for allegedly ripping off a 1999 song named “Juda” and using it for her own song, “Judas.”

According to press, a singer named Rebecca Francescatti is claiming that there are too many similarities stemming from her own music to Gaga’s “Born This Way” album.

Francescatti believes it has to do with her former bass player, Brian Gaynor, who now works for the company that helped write some of the “Bad Romance” singer’s new tunes.

Rebecca's lawyer, “Though the songs are different styles, the composition is the same and the chorus is the same melody… Francescatti is seeking recognition for what she created.”

A lawsuit filed in Detroit claims music star Lady Gaga is misleading her fans with an online pitch for donations for victims of the Japan earthquake.

Lady Gaga's website is selling $5 wristbands that say, "We Pray For Japan." The website also allows people to make additional donations and says "all proceeds go directly to Japan relief efforts."

But the lawsuit notes that sales tax and a $3.99 shipping charge are added. Detroit-area attorney Alyson Oliver believes not all money is going to help the Japanese. She wants an accounting.

An email seeking comment was left Monday with a spokesman for Lady Gaga. The lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in Detroit. It seeks class-action status and possible refunds for people who bought wristbands.

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has been sued over sales of her wristbands for Japan's earthquake relief efforts in a class action that claims that not all the proceeds went to victims as she had promised.

Michigan legal network 1800LAWFIRM also alleges that Gaga and other companies involved in the sale and marketing of the $5 white and red "We Pray for Japan" wristbands overcharged buyers on shipping costs and "artificially inflated reports of total donations".

"While we commend Lady Gaga for her philanthropic efforts, we want to ensure that claims that 'all proceeds will be donated to Japan's earthquake' are in fact true," said Alyson Oliver, an attorney for 1800LAWFIRM.

"Our intention via this lawsuit is to uncover any improprieties committed by Lady Gaga and appropriate the full donations assumed to the victims in Japan."

Lady Gaga, 25, and her representatives did not return calls for comment on Monday. The federal class action lawsuit was filed in Michigan on Friday while the "Born This Way" singer was in Japan for a benefit concert for victims of the March earthquake and tsunami.

Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, is reported to have donated about $3 million to Japan disaster relief through sales of the wristbands and other ventures.

The official website for the singer's store however has several comments from frustrated fans complaining about long delivery times and shipping and handling costs of more than $5 for the small rubber wristbands.

The lawsuit claims that a slew of federal racketeering and consumer protection laws were broken by what it calls deceptive advertising and profits from the sale of the bracelets.

Lady Gaga was last month named the most powerful celebrity in the world by Forbes magazine, based on her earnings, media visibility and social media popularity.

Lady Gaga poses backstage with her awards for Best Video, Best Song, Best Female, and Biggest Fans during the 2011 MTV EMA on Nov. 6, 2011, in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Silvery space-age scales, maroon doilies, a giant accordion-style coffee filter, cylindrical face-covering hats, and undulating kale. THIS is what makes an awards appearance by Lady Gaga so special. SHE NEVER DISAPPOINTS! And her presence at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards (aka EMA) as both a performer and nominee (and multiple awards winner) was also another WIN for the Haus of Gaga style cannon. Mother Monster took home four awards, including her personal fave the Biggest Fans award. She was also, in our humble opinion, the best style slayer of the night, and her various looks all seemed to follow a similar theme, one we'd like to call FUTURISTIC ALIEN WARRIOR PRINCESS. With ALL outfits by Paco Rabanne, hats by the GENIUS Philip Treacy, with squadrons of dancers wearing Void Of Course (which you may remember from the dildo shoe incident of yore [THANK YOU, NICOLA FORMICHETTI FOR THE CREDITS!]), and that body-con, to-the-floor, silver scaled gown above topped with a multilayered side-pony and a gaggle of matching trophies? Well that's just the beginning, folks.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga performs onstage and receives the Best Female award during the 2011 MTV EMA in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Lady Gaga was all about shiny satellite dish hats that covered her face entirely. We're talking humongous cylinders that could do double duty as minimalist fruit bowls. They seemed to melt over her head before fanning out to cover her entire face and neck region, her eyes unseen behind two tiny slits. For her "Marry the Night" performance (which took place atop the surface of a moon), Mama M wore two layers of maroon pleated doilies that fanned out behind her iridescent blue hat and around her body like a scary yet really put together DILOPHOSAURUS. She wore a similar outfit to accept the Best Female first award, too, but it was a bigger, more fluid number that recalled both a stretched-out coffee filter as well as the Guggenheim Bilbao. This silver concoction swanned around her body like precious metal but actually floated on the breeze as she walked up to the stage, making us wonder what on earth this miraculous fabric was. The whole look was topped with a chrome hat, and from far away she resembled the inside of a anodized calla lily.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga receives the Best Video award and the Best Song award for "Born This Way" during the 2011 MTV EMA in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Lady Gaga changed up the style and shape of her next two award outfits, but held steadfast to the hats and shiny fabric. To accept the Best Video award, she actually EMERGED from behind her hat to reveal a mutant side bun all teased and twisted into overblown chignon perfection. Her tailored lady suit was very mother-of-the-bride gone Gaga in it's prim, covered-up tailoring, but with a neckline covered in sparkling grommets and an all-over lustrous teal effect that shimmered like the back of a fancy beetle. Her eyebrows were exaggerated and of the same greenish color while her cat eyes were drawn thickly in black and her lips were matte blue. To accept her Best Song award, our Lady was a greenmarket goddess in undulating layers of lacinato kale. She held on to her copper fruit bowl hat while waltzing up to the stage in truncated steps as the underskirts of her ensemble appeared constricting and Geisha-like. Even though her hat covered her face, you could not mistake her grateful sobs underneath. Yes, little monsters, Mama cried for us and for the success of "Born This Way", a song she feels most proud of.

Lady Gaga

All in all, Lady Gaga BROUGHT IT. Like, for serious. She NEVER holds back and always gives us a character, something in your face and in the flesh yet also surreal and not of this world. This is what elevates what she does to ART, performance art, if you will, and in her "Marry the Night" performance during the EMA, she gyrated atop the makeshift moon (in a sort of hybrid Axl Rose ankle dance) before jumping off and out of her costume to reveal a long side-ponytail and retro martian bikini made of shiny, op-art red squares. She danced her heart out with her dance posse (jazz hands included) before throwing herself across the surface of her Gaga moon. Folks, she did as she said she would. She MARRIED the NIGHT (and made ours too).

The men and women on our annual Celebrity 100 list the most powerful people in the entertainment business this year--earned $4.5 billion over the last 12 months by starring in films, playing basketball, walking the catwalk and more. But they also rose to the top by garnering influence.

These days that means mastering social media. Lady Gaga topples Oprah Winfrey from her No.1 spot on our list, which she's given up for only the third time in seven years. Gaga is there not just because of the $90 million she earned with a monster tour, but also because of her 32 million Facebook fans and 10 million Twitter followers--aka Little Monsters--who helped move 1 million digital downloads of her recent single "Born This Way" in only five days. They're also happy to buy the MAC makeup, Monster headphones and Virgin Mobile phones she features in her videos.

Oprah doesn't fall far though. The daytime talk maven, who earned $290 million last year, comes in second. Winfrey's earnings sank $25 million partially due to a reduced payday at SiriusXM. She still earns big from her syndicated show and from the stars she's spawned, including Dr. Phil (No. 18) Rachael Ray and Dr. Oz. Winfrey's earning power will take a bigger hit next year, when her syndicated show ends and she concentrates all her efforts on the struggling OWN network.

Maybe it would help if Oprah took a lesson from No. 3 Justin Bieber. The Biebs debuts on our list at the tender young age of 17, with $53 million earned over the last 12 months thanks to concerts, music sales and a 3-D documentary movie that grossed $100 million at the global box office. If this were 10 years ago Bieber would still be paying his dues in small clubs and schools, but thanks to the Internet, he's a sensation. His first hit song, "Baby," has been viewed 500 million times, a YouTube record.

Reality TV it girl Bethenny Frankel is another newbie worth noting. Famous for her newest hit show, Bethenny Ever After, she's used the small-screen platform to promote her Skinnygirl brand, helping her earn $55 million this year. She joins our list in 42nd place. Her entrepreneurial prowess--she sold her Skinnygirl Cocktails to Fortune Brands ( FOPRA - news - people ) and nabbed a $100 million cut of the deal paid out over multiple years--also put her on the cover of our magazine this week.

The Celebrity 100, which includes film and television actors, TV personalities, models, athletes, authors, musicians and comedians, is a measure of entertainment-related earnings and media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online). We also measure social media power by looking at each celebrity's presence on Facebook and Twitter. The earnings consist of pretax income between May 1, 2010, and May 1, 2011. Management, agent and attorney fees are not deducted. Forbes has been publishing the list annually since 1999.

Despite problems on and off the golf course, Tiger Woods still makes the top 10, ranking sixth with $75 million in annual earnings. Woods hasn't won a tournament since the revelation of his marital infidelities in 2009, and he recently withdrew from The Players Championship. But he still commands $3 million a pop for overseas appearances, and collects money from his remaining sponsors, Nike ( NKE - news - people ) and Electronic Arts ( ERTS - news - people ).

Lady Gaga has been forced to rush the release of her latest single "Judas" after the track leaked online.
The pop star was due to release "Judas," the second song from her upcoming album "Born This Way," on Tuesday but an unauthorzed version of the tune surfaced on the internet Friday.

It is believed "Judas" made its way online after a London radio station broadcast the track on Friday afternoon, according to Billboard.com.

Record executives moved swiftly to counteract the leak -- shifting the song's official premiere date forward by four days and releasing it for sale on digital retailer iTunes.

The singer posted a link to purchase "Judas" online in a Twitter post, and added: "New single 'Judas'! Monsters, thank you for inspiring me to write this song. Blood, sweat + 'Judas'."

Just hours after debuting "Judas," Gaga tweeted another special treat for fans by unveiling the cover art of her highly-anticipated "Born This Way" album. The sleeve, created by British photographer Nick Knight, depicts the star as half-human and half-motorcycle, with her head perched on a bike's handles. "Born this Way" hits shelves next month.

Lady Gaga isn't having much luck in Paris.

In October, the pop diva's concerts in Paris were postponed amid nationwide strikes over a government plan to raise the retirement age. One show was rescheduled for Sunday, but it was called off because of snow.

The weather led authorities to ban big trucks from driving through the Ile de France region that includes Paris. Lady Gaga's trucks couldn't get to the venue on time, concert venue Bercy stadium said on its Web site.

A concert Monday is expected to go forward as planned, and the canceled show is likely to be rescheduled for Tuesday, Bercy said.

The diva vented on Twitter, writing that "all 28" of the trucks carrying sets for her elaborate show had been detained. She said had wanted to do a show without the sets, but even sound and power equipment was blocked.

"I am furious and devastated," she wrote, adding that it was "unfair to my fans and to me."

Lady Gaga also wrote that two of her employees were "arrested trying to get into Paris so we could perform," without elaborating. French police, the singer's representatives and the concert venue did not immediately return calls and e-mails seeking comment on that claim.
